Welcome to the Greater Glory Garden
Our community project, born from the 200th-anniversary celebration for St John's Anglican Church in Prescott Ontario, is now in full bloom. Dedicated volunteers, with funding support from the Government of Canada's Community Services Recovery Fund administered by the United Way of Leeds and Grenville, the Diocese of Ontario and the Grenville Federation of Agriculture have brought this garden to life! With enthusiasm we come together to help combat household food insecurity in our small town while enjoying the great outdoors. Join us in this vibrant space, where we cultivate not only fresh produce but also a stronger, healthier community. Together, we can make Prescott an even better place to call home. Come be a part of something Greater!
Working with plants, one gets to know their essence and understands that they are not just a commodity. The gardener becomes rooted to the ground, which is part of God’s creation. Centered at the heart of the garden we find community and connection and good food to share.

About us

Friends of St John's (FOSJ)

We are a dedicated community group working hard to preserve our beloved 1860 Gothic Revival Church, St. John the Evangelist Anglican in Prescott, Ontario, just up the street from the St. Lawrence River. In 2021, we celebrated our 200th Congregational Anniversary amid COVID challenges. Now, we are looking forward to the next 200 years.

It is no secret that religion and its institutions are rapidly changing, risking the loss of architectural gems like our “Castle” church. Among the goals of FOSJ is to preserve and make the church and its property more accessible and eco-friendlier. The parish hall inside has been reclaimed and separated from the original sanctuary. We aim to continue engaging the community in preserving this heritage space for future generations, creating a welcoming community hub in a historic setting.

As a very small non-profit charity run completely by volunteers, FOSJ hopes that our new endeavour – a customized raised bed growing area on the back lot of St John’s property will give citizens of our little community of Prescott the chance to be part of the

Greater Glory Garden Club: a fun, safe place open to ALL where MEMBERS will literally get their hands dirty while learning about growing, tending and sharing wholesome food.  It is a well-known fact that community gardens improve physical and mental health.  Further, these communal spaces serve as beautiful community fixtures that positively contribute to the overall environment.

Community gardens like ours offer a promising strategy to decrease food insecurity AND offer space to proudly grow food together, out in the fresh air, sharing historic spaces with friendly faces.  Membership is open to all and only $25 per year!  So come on!  Come grow with us!

Grateful to our Volunteers, Supporters, Funders and Friends
